Why Small Water Tank Molds Are Not Suitable for Large Blow Molding Machines

Many customers think a large blow molding machine can produce all sizes of water tanks by simply changing molds. In actual production, however, small water tank molds are usually not suitable for large machines.

The first reason is the mismatch between extrusion capacity and die head size. Large machines are designed for big products, so they use high-output extruders and larger die heads. When producing small tanks, too much material is supplied, and the parison becomes too large and thick. This may cause uneven wall thickness, unstable weight, flash waste, and poor production stability.

The second reason is mold matching. Large machines have bigger platen spacing, stronger clamping force, and longer movement distance. Small molds may not fit the machine properly, even with adapter plates. This can affect mold alignment and increase setup difficulty.

Another reason is energy consumption and production efficiency. Large machines require more electricity, hydraulic power, and cooling resources, but their operating rhythm is mainly designed for large-volume products. When producing small tanks, operating cost becomes higher while production efficiency may not improve as expected.

For manufacturers, choosing a machine that matches the product size is usually the better solution. At Shandong Great Machinery, we provide suitable blow molding solutions for different tank sizes to help customers achieve stable production and reasonable costs.
